Nicole Livingstone Salin Plus Interview

Australian Olympic swimming champion Nicole Livingstone O.A.M has been announced as the official brand ambassador for Salin Plus, the world's only salt therapy device suitable for home use.

This exciting partnership comes to fruition as Australians prepare to tackle and treat the inevitable snuffles, sneezes and itchy irritations which occur at the start of spring thanks to hay fever, a term commonly used to refer to allergic rhinitis caused by seasonal exposure to pollen.

Nicole is urging Australians to 'swim not sink" by being proactive about tackling respiratory health symptoms that can be exacerbated by hay fever, one of the most common chronic respiratory conditions in Australia, affecting around 15 per cent of Australians or 3.1 million people.

Nicole comments: 'Spring is finally here but Aussies are already struggling with breathing issues, watery eyes and runny noses. Hay fever is annoying but it can also have a huge impact on your quality of life – lack of sleep affects your mood, runny eyes and blocked noses disrupt concentration, and irritability means you're not always a nice person to be around!"

She continues: 'For me, Salin Plus is a fantastic natural way to keep the respiratory health symptoms associated with hay fever at bay – I switch it on every night and sleep soundly, as does my family. It's definitely part of my armoury for proactively tackling respiratory health issues that appear in spring."

Common triggers of hay fever include house dust, animal fur, pollens, fungal spores, air pollutants and occupational triggers such as latex or small animals.

The Salin Plus salt therapy device works by replicating the 'micro climate" found in salt caves, removing air borne pollutants and enriching the air with salt ions. This passive and non invasive approach ensures better quality air is being inhaled, while helping to remove the airborne allergens from airways and sinuses that trigger hay fever.

It's suitable for adults and children from babies to teenagers, is easy to use thanks to its non-invasive nature, requires minimal maintenance and has quiet operating levels.

Nicole is one of Australia's greatest Backstrokers, representing Australia at three Olympics. She was a member of the Australian swimming team for twelve consecutive years from 1985 - 1996. Nicole holds the longest winning sequence of any Australian swimmer in history at the national titles, winning ten consecutive 100m Backstroke titles between 1987 and 1996.

As well as a stellar career in the Australian media, Nicole is a member of the Executive of the Australian Olympic Committee, Victorian Olympic Council Vice President, and a Director of Swimming Australia. She is also kept busy as a mother of twins, Ella and Joshua, born in 2002 and Robinson in 2007.

The Recommended Retail Price (RRP) for Salin Plus is $239.95. For more information call 1800 011 653, email sales@salinplus.com or visit www.salinplus.com to buy online and for a full list of pharmacy stockists.

Interview with Nicole Livingstone

Question: What is the Salin Plus device?

Nicole Livingstone: Salin Plus salt therapy device is the only device of its kind approved for use in the home. It works by replicating the 'micro climate" found in salt caves, removing air borne pollutants and enriching the air with salt ions.

This passive and non-invasive approach ensures better quality air is being inhaled, while helping to remove the airborne allergens from airways and sinuses that trigger hay fever.

It's suitable for adults and children from babies to teenagers, is easy to use thanks to its non-invasive nature, requires minimal maintenance and has quiet operating levels.

Question: Why does your family love the Salin Plus device?

Nicole Livingstone: As the parent of three young children, I know the stress respiratory health issues can cause not only for the child, but the whole family. Lack of sleep due to respiratory problems – blocked noses and persistent coughs to name just two – can have a negative impact on their concentration at school and willingness to participate in extra curricular activities. It can also make home life a little challenging at times!

To proactively stop any respiratory health issues slowing us down, I have a Salin Plus salty therapy device in my children's rooms and switch it on every night. It really works – we haven't had respiratory health issues for months and we are all prepared for spring and the hay fever season.

Question: What benefits have you seen since using the Salin Plus device?

Nicole Livingstone: It helps to ensure my family doesn't suffer unnecessarily with symptoms like coughs, colds, sneezes, snoring and hay fever. Using Salin Plus every night in my room, and in my children's rooms, helps us all breathe easier which means a great night's sleep and a happier household!

Question: What are the best ways to tackle hay fever symptoms in kids this spring?

Nicole Livingstone: Hay fever is annoying but it can also have a huge impact on your quality of life – lack of sleep affects your mood, runny eyes and blocked noses disrupt concentration, and irritability means you're not always a nice person to be around!

For me, Salin Plus is a fantastic natural way to keep the respiratory health symptoms associated with hay fever at bay.

It is suitable for all age groups including children, easy to use thanks to its non-invasive nature, requires minimal maintenance and has quiet operating levels.

Question: How do you use the Salin Plus device to prevent and treat hay fever?

Nicole Livingstone: I switch it on every night and sleep soundly, as does my family. It's definitely part of my armoury for proactively tackling respiratory health issues that appear in spring.

Question: What hay fever symptoms do parents need to look for in their kids?

Nicole Livingstone: Runny noses, itchy watery eyes, snuffles and general irritability due to lack of sleep are always signs of hay fever for me.

Question: How do you ensure health remains number one whilst being an extremely busy mum?

Nicole Livingstone: I try to do all the things I know I am supposed to do! The whole family starts the day with a green smoothie, I eat really well, and I drink lots of water.

Good hygiene is a big focus as well for me, hard to lose that, when it was drilled into us as swimmers!

I still swim a few times a week and I have a spin bike at home I get on at least 3 times a week.

Most importantly though is getting good quality sleep, if I can't recharge my own energy levels, then I find I'm sluggish, hence why I am keen to let the Salin Plus do all the work while I sleep! I know I will sleep easy and wake up feeling good when it's on beside me!

Question: What's next for you?

Nicole Livingstone: My big kids (twins) are starting secondary school in 2015, so that will be a big year of transition and my little guy is the kind of kid who just goes and goes til he drops, so I'm always on my toes with him! We've got more swimming racing next year that I'll commentate on as we head toward the Rio Games. Hopefully in all this busy thing called -life', there is time for holidays - we've just bought a camper trailer, and a lot of laughter!
