Carving it up with roaring rock, romping Americana roots and a shuddering psychedelic twist, Melbourne-based roots/ rock band Nick Carver & The Mean Street Butchers are bringing their glorious, high-powered sound to quaking new single 'Two Legged Dog'.
Fronted by singer-songwriter Nick Carver, the group bring an authentic energy that pierces every ounce of their music, fuelled by honest insights, soulful observations and a clear, unapologetic passion for creating riveting roots/ rock melodies with a crisp modern edge.
If their previous releases, including debut album 'The River' and following singles 'Hide It Away' and 'Pony' are best described as a swampy mix of alt-country and desert rock, then the newest release from Nick Carver & the Mean St Butchers is all that and more, bringing a zinging spark of electric blues to their stormy country-rock sound.
With the rolling kick of thundering drums, 'Two Legged Dog' charges in, already wild with textured electric bottle-neck guitars behind commanding, rough-edged vocals. Guitar riffs strike with lightning bolt force as a big, vibrating chorus arrives with rallying strength and luminous backing vocals.
Conjuring images of cowboy boots kicking up dust, the track carries a resounding folk-esque energy that forces a rollicking foot-stomping affair, amplified by heroic guitar solos, robust cowbell thumps and the strong country-road desire to reach the destination in better shape than when you left.
Inspired by an interview with Andy Wallace about the recording of Jeff Buckley's 'Last Goodbye', and a pesky riff that had been reeling in his head for a while, Nick Carver used his creative centre to bring 'Two Legged Dog' into being. Written from the heart, Carver wanted the song's lyrics to be personal, whilst still matching the delta-blues vibe he had concocted. He further explains:
