Nick Carver Two Legged Dog

Carving it up with roaring rock, romping Americana roots and a shuddering psychedelic twist, Melbourne-based roots/ rock band Nick Carver & The Mean Street Butchers are bringing their glorious, high-powered sound to quaking new single 'Two Legged Dog'

Fronted by singer-songwriter Nick Carver, the group bring an authentic energy that pierces every ounce of their music, fuelled by honest insights, soulful observations and a clear, unapologetic passion for creating riveting roots/ rock melodies with a crisp modern edge.

If their previous releases, including debut album 'The River' and following singles 'Hide It Away' and 'Pony' are best described as a swampy mix of alt-country and desert rock, then the newest release from Nick Carver & the Mean St Butchers is all that and more, bringing a zinging spark of electric blues to their stormy country-rock sound.

With the rolling kick of thundering drums, 'Two Legged Dog' charges in, already wild with textured electric bottle-neck guitars behind commanding, rough-edged vocals. Guitar riffs strike with lightning bolt force as a big, vibrating chorus arrives with rallying strength and luminous backing vocals.

Conjuring images of cowboy boots kicking up dust, the track carries a resounding folk-esque energy that forces a rollicking foot-stomping affair, amplified by heroic guitar solos, robust cowbell thumps and the strong country-road desire to reach the destination in better shape than when you left.

Inspired by an interview with Andy Wallace about the recording of Jeff Buckley's 'Last Goodbye', and a pesky riff that had been reeling in his head for a while, Nick Carver used his creative centre to bring 'Two Legged Dog' into being. Written from the heart, Carver wanted the song's lyrics to be personal, whilst still matching the delta-blues vibe he had concocted. He further explains:

"'Two Legged Dog' is basically about the drive from the city back down the coast to Inverloch where I live with my family. When I'm driving home on those late nights I keep my wife in my head and look forward to feeling her warmth beside me while I sit with her by the fireplace and hold her hand."

Having played multiple live shows, it's clear that the band's roots-rock charisma has been connecting with the right people, seeing them perform at the NYE on the Hill, Inverloch Sounds of Summer Festival and Folk Rhythm and Life Festival, as well as supporting artists like Ash Grunwald and The Tea Party.
