My Silent World

The world is a very different place when you are deaf, the power of sight and the beauty of colours and textures are heightened, as sounds are removed or reduced from everyday life. But for one young deaf child, her silent world is about to disappear.

Her world as she's always known, is a treasure to her, but is about to become loud, shrilling, overwhelming, and ironically deafening. 'The intruder', otherwise known as a cochlear implant, changes her life by giving her something that has been missing- her sense of hearing. She eventually learns to accept 'The intruder', but reminds the implant that it can never be as loud as her silent world.

My Silent World is a wonderful and highly original story about disability and difference, with beautiful, evocative illustrations by CBCA Crichton-award winner, Vincent Agostion.
