Now in its 23rd year, MUDFEST is back from 15 – 24 August, 2013! Run solely by students since 2011, MUDFEST is the largest student arts festival in Australia and in recent years has involved around 500 student artists and been visited by 10,000+ patrons. Covering five disciplines; Music, Interarts, Film, Theatre and Visual Art, the Festival showcases and supports young and emerging artists across 10 days in spaces throughout the University Melbourne Campus, and offsite arts venues.
MUDFEST has seen the involvement of a number of students who have gone on to professional careers in the arts, such as director Michael Kantor, playwrights Lally Katz and Angus Cerini, and producer Stephen Armstrong.
Since its inception, MUDFEST has become a reputable stepping stone for emerging artists, as well as an opportunity to gain the expertise of professional mentors. As a festival that regularly attracts crowds in the thousands, MUDFEST is an excellent platform for students to showcase engaging and unique works, and to find an audience for their practice.
This years' theme; Make it New!, encourages festival participants to branch out into uncharted territory, exploring set boundaries and finding ways to push beyond.
