Melbourne New Year's Eve

A uniquely Melbourne soundtrack will accompany the midnight fireworks to ring in 2015, with music and entertainment at the four city live sites also produced exclusively by and for Melburnians.

Those attending live sites at Docklands, Kings Domain, Treasury Gardens and Flagstaff Gardens will be treated to sets from four local DJs, Strange Talk DJs, Paul Mac, DJ Ms Butt and MZ Rizk, who will spin their turntables from 9pm to 1am.

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said Melbourne's own Strange Talk DJs also produced the soundtrack to accompany the 10-minute midnight fireworks.

'Whether you're at one of our live sites or watching the Channel 7 live broadcast from your own New Year's Eve party, you will be able to enjoy the original soundtrack choreographed and synchronised exclusively for the midnight fireworks," the Lord Mayor said.

'Melbourne music and artists will be celebrated in the soundtrack, along with sound bites from the Melbourne Cup and the unmistakable MCG AFL siren."

Melbourne artists who feature in the soundtrack include Cut Copy, Gypsy & the Cat, 360, Kylie Minogue, Feenixpawl, NERVO & Nicky Romero and Masters Apprentices.

In the two minutes before midnight a multimedia countdown will take Melburnians on a journey from sunrise to sunset, capturing the people, spaces and daily activities that are part of the Melbourne lifestyle in the summertime.

'Baristas pouring coffee, joggers along the Tan, children at Luna Park and market shoppers will all be captured against the backdrop of the world's most liveable city," the Lord Mayor said.

A digital clock will countdown in real time to ring in the New Year.

The midnight fireworks will be broadcast live on Channel 7 and the soundtrack can be heard on FM99.7. Visit melbourne.vic.gov.au/nye for full details of the night's activities.
People attending the celebrations are strongly encouraged to use public transport services which run all night and are free after 6pm. All services will run to a normal Wednesday timetable with additional special services.

Large crowds are expected in Melbourne on New Year's Eve and those travelling through the city should expect delays. City of Melbourne's New Year's Eve event is an alcohol free event, fines apply.
