If you relish the thought of munching down hot dog after hot dog, and at record speed, then Luna Park wants to hear from you! To celebrate International Hot Dog Day, Melbourne's Luna Park is hosting its much anticipated, annual Hot Dog Eating Competition on Saturday 23rd July at 1pm.
If you can mustard the courage and are partial to a hot dog…or ten, then Luna Park encourages you to join in the mouth-watering fun and register your place in this year's stomach-stretching competition at www.lunapark.com.au.
It's a dog eat dog world, but Luna Park will make sure it's an even bun-fight with a separate male and female competition, with everyone meeting the age requirement of 18 years and over. The -Top Dog' from each competition will be crowned -2016 Wiener' and will score themselves a prize of $250 in cash, a family pass to Luna Park in Melbourne or Sydney, a winner's t-shirt and the much-sought after -Wiener's' trophy.
Returning this year to defend his title, Nathan Imber from Hobart, shares his tips on how to get on a roll: 'Don't eat anything the night before the competition, build up your appetite! Last year I didn't eat anything for 22 hours before the big day and made sure I drank plenty of water to stretch my stomach. Luna Park's Hot Dog Eating Competition is a lot of fun – I'd recommend anyone who likes hot dogs and has a big appetite to take part! You might not be able to eat for a couple of days afterwards but it's a great event to be part of!"
Billy Boyd, founder of Competitive Eating Australia will introduce the competitors while cheerleaders will dance and chant the crowd into a food frenzy! There will also be live music by The Strays to keep everyone entertained. For those who'd like to be involved but don't think they can stomach the pressure, Luna Park's friendly staff will be handing out hot dog tasters. You'd be a silly sausage to miss out!
First Aid will be on hand for any hot dog related emergencies – as will buckets.
All potential champions must register for entry into the competition at www.lunapark.com.au by 13th July.
Get yourself down to Luna Park to enjoy the seaside breezes and picturesque views overlooking the famous Port Phillip Bay. Luna Park favourites, the iconic Scenic Railway and the traditional Carousel, prove why the park is still a much-loved attraction for so many Melburnians and tourists alike.
