The great thing about using a sports or fitness app is that it's like having your own personal trainer available anytime you need them. However, juggling a smartphone in your hands while running or exercising can be a recipe for disaster and glancing at a smartphone when it's strapped in an armband can be awkward and inconvenient.

The Magellan Echo provides a solution to these challenges - it's the first dedicated Smart Sports watch in Australia that uses Bluetooth Smart technology to wirelessly connect to an iPhone and will stream live details from your sports app such as distance, time, calories, heart rate and pace to your wrist. This means you can tuck your phone away in your armband or pocket and have complete control of your running, walking, gym workout or, golf scorecard as well as your workout music from your Echo.

The rugged and shower-proof Echo features a customisable screen that will allow you to start, stop or lap your sports app as well as play, change and pause songs on your iPhone's music playlist. All while your iPhone is tucked away in your armband or pocket.

The Magellan Echo is compatible with many popular sports apps including Strava, all Wahoo Fitness apps, MapMyRun, MapMyWalk, MapMyHike, iMobileinterval, iSmoothRun and GolfPadGPS. There is even an Echo model that includes a low-energy Bluetooth heart rate monitor, compatible with any sports apps that tracks heart rate data.

Once you have completed your workout all your fitness data is live in your sports app, so it can be shared online straight away – there's no need to plug the Echo into a computer to upload your stats. The device also runs on a replaceable battery with up to six months battery life, so it doesn't need to be charged before every use.

The Magellan Echo is compatible with iPhone 4S, 5, 5C and 5S and is available in stores now in black, orange and blue. A new Pink Echo will be available in Dick Smith stores nationally from 28 April.
