"PR Works is a consumer brands public relations consultancy which has been operating successfully for 10 years in Melbourne and three years in Sydney. It is a team of energetic, enthusiastic, qualified professionals who are inspired by the science of public relations and thrive on creating new ideas. We recruit only the best specialists in each segment we service and all of our consultants have extensive knowledge of the media process and personnel." Lisa Chapman
Lisa Chapman joined PR Works in 1999 as Managing Director after a successful career encompassing film and TV production, advertising account management in television, newspapers and magazines, marketing management, copywriting, public relations and event management. This diverse background has provided Lisa with a broad experience from which to solve today's communications problems.
Most recently Lisa was Victorian Manager of Javelin Australia, a National marketing, public relations and event consultancy, which specialised in sport. During five years at Javelin Lisa gained considerable experience in Olympic marketing and PR and the media leverage of sponsorships for a range of clients including adidas, Australia Post, Telstra, Qantas, The Australian Olympic Committee, Coca-Cola, and Mitsubishi.
Lisa's strengths lay in clearly seeing 'the big picture', managing people and projects, and maximising opportunities for clients by innovative communications solutions.
In readiness for the challenges of the new millennium, Lisa completed her Masters of Marketing degree at Melbourne's Monash University in 2000. "Many of the clients I deal with have a marketing background, so I find it very useful to be up to date with the latest marketing theory, especially in the hot areas such as e-commerce, m-commerce, relationship marketing, CRM and the International marketing of brands and products. It also helps to be able to see immediately where the public relations campaign fits into the whole marketing mix" says Lisa.

Where did you grow up?
Hobart, Tasmania
What was your first job?
Believe it or not as a Zoology Assistant at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. The taxidermist decided I was going to be his protégé and he was going to teach me everything he knew! Fortunately I decided a job in science was not for me and moved on to become an advertising copywriter for Leo Burnett ad agency, before moving into television, newspapers, magazines then PR.
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
It wavered between medical technology (I was good at science), an English teacher (I was good at English) and a magazine editor (I was a magazine junkie)
How many hours a week do you work?
55 60 usually
Name a movie that actually inspired you?
The Tango Lesson a little known black and white love story. It has inspired my partner and I to take up Latin dance classes which are great fun!
Name a talent you don't have that you wish you did?
Singing. Although I was once in the Howrah Primary School choir, a singing career was not to be!
What was the last book you read?
Memoirs of a Geisha a beautifully written and very personal and poignant story which you can't put down
Pitch Doctor by Neil Flett a behind the scenes look at the Sydney Olympics bid
Have you ever had a celebrity crush and if so who?
I am embarrassed to admit to a crush on Garth from Sherbet. I met him at a function a year or so ago, and went up and introduced myself and told him he had pride of place inside all my wardrobe doors as an 11 year old he was chuffed!
Currently although I am much too old for crushes, I have to admit a passing interest in Pierce Brosnan and Hugh Jackman.....
What song transports you to another place when you hear it and why?
'Have I told you lately that I love you'? by Van Morrison. It was played at my best friend's wedding where I was bridesmaid, and everyone was in tears it was so romantic!
What is your idea of the perfect Sunday?
Definitely sleeping in, collecting the papers, heading out for a leisurely bacon & egg & latte breakfast, then maybe a drive to the beach or the mountains with my partner. Then back home for a visit to the gym before returning to a yummy home cooked lasagne!
Looking back 10 years. Are you now, where you expected to be?
10 years ago I was working in TV in Tasmania. I never had a grand '10 year plan' but I'm pretty happy with my career, personally, and with finishing my Masters right now.
What's your favourite city in the world and why?
New York where do I start? The instant buzz, the people, the food, the shows, great clothes, the icons, the accents, the whole I-feel-like-I'm-in-a-sitcom atmosphere!
What advice would you give to somebody embarking on their first business or aspiring to achieve extraordinary career goals?
Do your research thoroughly. Don't just think it sounds like a fun job... talk to as many people as you can and get advice on the industry & make contacts. Women don't network nearly enough! Get the right education too many people still drift into BA's majoring in philosophy and Ancient Greek and wonder why they can't get a job! Finally and most importantly LOVE WHAT YOU DO! I have always had that philosophy and changed jobs and companies when I no longer felt that way. Life is too short to do something you hate every day!
