Left of Centre Stage

Sarika Gupta is a young doctor with a vivid interest in the arts and a keen passion for women's health and international public health. Since 2010, Sarika has combined these two mediums to capture elements of her most memorable experiences as a doctor working with international disadvantaged communities. She will be detailing some of her most moving images titled -Left of Centre Stage' in a -one-night-only' RAW Artist event taking place at the Great North Hotel in Newcastle, NSW, on the 9th April, 2015.

All proceeds raised from the exhibition will be distributed evenly between the Goroka Hospital in Papa New Guinea, Rotary International and Spacim Pikinini Organisation – a selection of charities and non-governmental organisation's Sarika has worked with during her time overseas. Her ongoing memoir of these travels will be displayed among a larger showcase of multi-faceted artists, illustrating an intimate and powerful collection of portraits. Vividly capturing the key elements of her experiences both as an observer and as a medic, her images instill a distinct awareness in the viewer.

Since Sarika's most recent solo photography exhibition, -Without Rose Coloured Glasses' in Sydney, September 2014, she has continued to work with Rotary International in PNG to promote family planning and develop other strategies to lower the national maternal mortality rate. Part of her display at the exhibition was purchased by the National Gallery of Papa New Guinea and integrated into their permanent collection. Her images were applauded for their ability to vividly document the beginnings of female advocacy in PNG.
