Kids In The Park July 2013

The official home of Sydney's BIGGEST school holiday program Kids in the Park just got EVEN BIGGER…  with 12 NEW activities to get kids of all ages and interests off the couch and into stimulating school holiday fun this winter!

With a total of more than 50 activities – including heaps of FREE and good-value options at less than $20 – Kids in the Park July 2013 will be on across Sydney Olympic Park EVERY DAY of the winter school holidays, from 29 June – 14 July.

Active and adventurous kids will relish in a week of swashbuckling fun with treasure hunts, colour wars, pirate crafts, archery, cooking, games and much more at the NEW Lodge -Sailing the High Seas' Holiday Camp from Monday 8 – Friday 12 July. The ideal school holiday alternative to day-care, the Residential Camp option for ages 8-12 years will run for five days and four nights at a cost of $380 per child, and a Day Camp option for ages 5-12 years will also operate from 8am-6pm for $65 daily, inclusive of all meals and with Childcare Rebate Receipts available on request.

Roll-up, roll-up for the NEW Mega Circus Mix two-hour Flying Trapeze and Circus Skills class! Held at Circus Arts at the Aquatic Centre under the guidance of professionals, the activity will see kids aged 4-14 learn how to walk the tightwire, juggle, hula-hoop, twirl, acrobalance, use the low trapeze AND… fly through the air to make a -catch' on the 10 metre high flying trapeze rig! Fun for less than $50 per child, Mega Circus Mix will start at 10am daily, from 3-5 and 10-12 July.

From learning how to fly to how to roll, AusCycle's -Get Riding' Program will teach kids important cycling skills. NEW to Kids in the Park, the program will be held at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Halls on 1 and 2 July via two courses: Bike Control for ages 5-9 from 9am-noon and Road Safety for ages 10-12 from 1pm-4pm. Each course costs $83 per child.

Nature-loving kids aged 5-12 can discover Mangroves… More than Just Mud from 10.30am on Tuesday 2 July. FREE as well as NEW to Kids in the Park, the 90-minute activity at beautiful Bicentennial Park – an iconic Sydney parkland now celebrating 25 years since its opening – will give kids a chance to wander along the Boardwalk with a Park Ranger who will unravel the intricate web of the wetlands. Participants will get to test the weather with a hygrometer, take a water sample and discover the bird and marine life that live within the Park's wetlands.

Ewwwww, gross! Kids can explore all things creepy and gooey at the NEW Fizzics – Gross and Gory Science workshop from 1pm-4pm on 9 July. Super fun yet not for the faint hearted, participants will make fake snot, vile vomit bombs, exploding pimples, fake wounds and much more, all in the name of studying the human body! At a cost of $35 per child aged 7-13 years, the activity will be held at the Education Centre at Bicentennial Park where the NEW Fizzics Education – Chemical Concoctions workshop will also take place from 9am-noon on 9 July for kids aged 6-14.

On 3 July, Painting Unleashed in the Park will allow creative kids to splash out with colour and self-expression in a fun -Jackson Pollock' style drip-painting art workshop from 10.30am-12.30pm. With all materials and protective wear provided for $26 per child aged 5-12, the NEW Kids in the Park activity will be led by artist and teacher Leah Robinson, who will also present the NEW Smart Social collaborative art workshop with education specialist and psychologist Marika Conomos at Bicentennial Park on 12 July.

Creative kids will also love to while away the hours at Sydney Olympic Park's Newington Armory on 4 and 11 July, when the NEW Kids on Canvas – Christmas in July Workshop will give participants aged 6-15 years tips on how to draw and paint their very own masterpiece canvas ready to hang in their homes. The activity will operate from 10am-12noon for approximately $50 per child, with canvas supplies and morning tea included.

Other NEW activities in the Kids in the Park July program include The Writing Workshop – Future Fiction, The Writing Workshop – Poetry: Images and Forms and Disney on Ice presents Princesses and Heroes at Allphones Arena, with a chance to win four tickets to the show via the Kids in the Park web page.

With familiar favourites of the Kids in the Park program such as FREE Sports Star, Sing Star and Dancing Star, FREE Rugby League, good-value AFL Clinics for $5 per child, Gymnastics, Badminton, Table Tennis and more, Sydney Olympic Park is the ultimate boredom-busting solution this July school holiday period.
