Jay Seeney has given us even more of a reason to stay home today thanks to the release of his cover of Ed Sheeran's 'Castle on the Hill' along with its brand-new film clip. With new music on the horizon and a bit of a break since his last release, Seeney wanted to record a track that is well known and really resonated with him.
'Castle on the Hill at the core is really a throwback to all of the fun times people had as they were growing up,' says Seeney, 'while also indicating how dramatically things have changed over the years.'
Anyone familiar with modern country rock is acutely aware of what Jay Seeney and his band bring to the table, and this is something a little different, yet very familiar. Seeney recorded the track at his studio in Appin while Joe de la Hoyde, a 'young gun producer' who has recorded with Jasmine Rae & Rachael Fahim, took on the mixing, mastering and programming.
'The video was a special one to shoot' says Seeney. 'We shot in my home town of Appin with all the familiar sights we used to go to when we were young. The kid that we filmed with is actually my best friend's younger brother – the clip is full of real memories from a past era.'
Seeney self-produced the clip under his Blacklist Productions company, keeping in theme with the personal journey that makes up the narrative. 'It's a journey of my youth around the streets of Appin where I have so many fond memories,' he says.
Of course, Seeney is no stranger to quality video production. He has been nominated for two Golden Guitars Awards for Video of the Year for his work with Lee Kernaghan (Backroad Nation) and The Wolfe Brothers (Hey Brother), and has also worked with artists including Drew McAlister, Travis Collins and Andrew Swift.
Seeney's own tracks have regularly hit the iTunes Country Chart, among others, with 'Tread Gently' hitting No.13 and clocking over 50,000 streams across multiple platforms. His evergrowing discography has seen him tour all over Australia, NZ and in Nashville too, as well as playing festivals featuring huge acts like Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Rascal Flatts and Drew McAlister, who he not only supported, but toured with him as his guitarist.
'Castle on the Hill' will no doubt receive a royal welcome from fans and with Seeney working on new music, it is likely that he will be scaling mountains, not hills, in the not-too-distant future.
