Inviolate

Australian author Karen Turner continues to explore the themes of hope and betrayal, and the pain of love, in her stunning new novel -Inviolate,' the much-anticipated sequel to her debut novel -Torn.'

-Inviolate' continues the narrative of Alex Broughton and her passionate struggle against the constraints of her time. Set in 1813 during the Regency Era, Alex, still numb from the pain of an intolerable betrayal, reluctantly accepts an arranged marriage, and at the age of 19, journeys to Scotland to face an unknown future.

Trapped in a loveless, violent marriage, and with nothing left to lose, Alex embarks on a fight for survival. Battling the irresistible forces raging against her, she remains bound to the one man she can never forgive, or forget.

'While Inviolate is essentially a love story, I wanted it to paint a picture of the times, including the way people lived, their politics and how the war affected them" says Karen. 'Love and relationships are not always straightforward, often they are painful, and I really wanted to explore the anguish that different relationships can cause."

'My lead female is not beautiful and perfect - she makes mistakes. The man she loves is not perfect - he's flawed and has some unpleasant characteristics. Humans are complex animals, as is the argument of an arranged marriage versus a love relationship."

In -Inviolate' readers will get to see Alex as the woman she has grown into, and how far she has come from the child they first met in Karen's first novel, Torn.
