Empowerment for women within the ICT sector begins with education. This in turn becomes a catalyst for change in the work place and beyond. However, there are many external barriers in place within the ICT sector which make it challenging for women to -shine' - with often the biggest barrier being our own thinking.
Traditionally, women have not been promoted to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers. In the past few decades, there has been a continued, marked drop in enrolments in STEM subjects in universities, along with lower participation rates in schools – despite the fact that STEM skills are increasingly becoming a requirement for careers in every industry, not just the ICT sector.
With this alarming trend comes an opportunity to promote and empower young women to step up, take risks with less doubt and succeed within the ICT sector.
We invite you to join with hundreds of other women (and men) in ICT to celebrate International Women's Day 2016. Not only will you enjoy a delicious lunch, you will also have the chance to hear a range of inspirational stories from industry leaders who will each share their life experiences and knowledge of the ICT sector – and shine a light on the range of opportunities that exist to make a difference.
