Home styling will pay homage to industrial spaces for its inspiration this year as Australians seek sanctuary from the fast paced world around us. It's the prediction from leading trend forecaster and interior designer Bree Leech, who says industrial designs provide us with a sense of nostalgia – where this backwards gaze reflects a desire to find calm and quality in a hectic modern world.
In line with the forecast, Brilliant Lighting offers an affordable range of on-trend decorative pendants inspired by our industrial past.
Brilliant Lighting Interior Product Manager Jacqueline Hughes says, 'In our world of gadgets and technology,
we are craving simplicity, warmth and layers of interest in our sanctuary." Ms Leech adds, 'We now see beauty in the industrial style due to the simplicity, aged materials, natural patina and wear-and tear found in
these pieces."
'The directional lighting products Brilliant Lighting has created for this forecast are reminiscent and
characteristic of this vintage – inspired style. The honey wooden tones and use of glass, brass and
linen in the range ensures they are also soft enough to blend with any design style without feeling heavy or
fussy," Ms Hughes says.
It is easy to create warmth in an industrial-inspired home by knowing the right lighting to choose.
Pendant lights that feature glass or metal are ideal, such as the Charlie Industrial Metal Pendant, the PARTI
Industrial Retro Pendant or the METZO Domed Metal Pendant, with shades in simple vintage shapes such
as domes or cages. Alternatively, hang exposed bulbs on simple fabric cords with brass fittings.
'Combine the old with the new by selecting industrial-inspired pendants with cutting edge globe technology," Ms Hughes says.
'Use warmer metals for a wholesome feel and add greenery to freshen and balance the industrial edge."
Ms Leech adds, 'To achieve an industrial look, the complementing décor should feature vintage and rustic finishes, such as exposed or painted brick, polished concrete and recycled timber."
'Keep colour schemes soft and neutral using white and green, or go for something dramatic and moody
by using darker blues and greys. For a more modern vibe add elements such as simple contemporary
furniture pieces," she says.
