Inaugural Classical Indian Dance Festival

The Inaugural Classical Indian Dance Festival will whirl into Sydney for the Easter long weekend promising to take the audience on a spectacular journey that spans the diverse cultures of the Indian sub-continent with never seen before classical Indian dancing and a breath-taking performance by Guinness World Record holding spinner, Vidha Lai who creates a virtual whirlwind performing 103 spins per minute!

 

The two day festival at Everest Theatre, Seymore Centre, Sydney on Saturday 19th April and Sunday 20th April will feature 10 Indian-themed dance performances from five different Indian Classical forms of dance never seen before in Australia and will star nine internationally renowned Indian soloist dancers and local performers.

 

A highlight of the weekend will be the Kathak artist Vidha Lai who created the first Guinness World Record of 103 unbelievable spins in one minute. Vidha will be accompanied by her husband Abhimanyu Lal, a dynamic duo who are world famous Kathak dancers.

 

Another first for Australia will be the  'Sattriya" performance which is a classical dance form evolved in Assam during the 15th century in Hindu Vashnava monasteries which will be performed by well known Sattruiya artists Anita Sharma and Naren Bariah.

 

The international artists will be supported by local dance schools and the festival is being organised by Madhuram Academy of Performing Arts & Baharatiya Vidya Bhavan Australia.
