The Snowdome Foundation Shakes up the World of Blood Cancer Research with a Live & Virtual Event: Snowdome Foundation's -Great Shake-Up' 2014!
It's a fundraising event that you don't need to leave the office for; an event that unites Australian businesses to -make hope real' for Australians in the fight against blood cancers. On Wednesday 15 October the Snowdome Foundation will make this happen with the -Great Shake-Up' 2014 - a live, virtual and interactive event streamed to boardrooms and offices across the country!
Snowdome Foundation, formed in 2010, is driven by passionate people from corporate Australia, leading medical professionals and members of the philanthropic community, all of whom have been touched in some way by blood cancer. Snowdome helps people living with blood cancers in a way that no other organisation does - they work to -unlock' new treatments by channelling investment into early phase human clinical trials of next-generation drugs and therapies.
Each year 11,500 Australians are diagnosed with blood cancers - Leukaemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma. They're the third highest cause of death from cancer in Australia. Since its inception, Snowdome's work and funding have given 166 blood cancer patients access to new treatments and eight clinical trials have commenced. In addition, $8.1 million has been directed to Snowdome prioritized projects.
Says leading haematologist and Snowdome Director Professor Miles Prince AM: 'Despite advances in blood cancer treatments in last few years, we desperately need to find more targeted drugs so our patients can live longer and better lives. We have internationally renowned doctors and scientists who want their patients to be involved in these breakthroughs. The answer is finding the money to support trials with these new drugs; the Snowdome Foundation has already demonstrated that they can help us get there."
The -Great Shake-Up' 2014 will be hosted by Channel 7's Hamish McLachlan live from AFL Media's studios in an hour of education, inspiration and surprise entertainment from premier Australian performers. The event will feature interviews from leading doctors and clinicians about why cutting edge research is vital to blood cancers, inspiring stories from brave and courageous Australians who've lived with and survived blood cancer, and moving tales, told by their families, of the journeys of those who sadly haven't survived. (At last year's inaugural Great Shake-Up, over 2,500 people across the country tuned in and raised over $1.3 million!)
