Gotye & His Collaborators

As part of Spectacle: The Music Video Exhibition, and in collaboration with Melbourne Music Week, renowned musician, songwriter and producer, Gotye, will come together with some of his collaborators to discuss the creative process behind his music videos for one night only on Monday 18th of November 2013 at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI).

As an award-winning musician, Gotye is no stranger to creative collaboration. His music videos are a testament to this, utilising the talents of diverse directors, artists and animators. Often involving a range of complex animation and filmmaking techniques, visual worlds are seamlessly set against his music.

This public event will bring Gotye together with filmmakers and animators to discuss the creative process behind the iconic music videos for hits such as -Easy Way Out', -State of the Art' and the international chart-topping -Somebody That I Used to Know'. Guests include filmmakers Natasha Pincus, Darcy Prendergast, and directors of Rubber House animation studio Ivan Dixon and Greg Sharp.

Hosted by film and music critic Megan Spencer, this unique event is designed to provide a fascinating insight into the collaborative journey, from initial concept and creative development, through to final clip production.

This event is a feature of the public programs running alongside Spectacle: The Music Video Exhibition, showing exclusively at ACMI from Thursday 26 September 2013 until Sunday 23 February 2014. The most comprehensive exhibition of music video presented to date, Spectacle features over 300 works, from the experimental and the extravagant to the political and the provocative, taking the visitor through a labyrinth of sound and vision.

Spectacle also features the talents of Australian directors, including Darcy Prendergast's direction of -Easy Way Out' and never before seen footage of the making of -Somebody That I Used to Know,' directed by Natasha Pincus.
