Three, Two, One… Action!
A new Australian reality series is premiering in the quest to meet an industry demand while supporting a community cause. Airing in July, Action Star sees 400 budding actors compete for their place in global film entertainment.
Esteemed actor, stuntman and action choreographer Richard Norton, the man behind the fight action on such box office hits as Mad Max, Fury Road, Suicide Squad and the latest X Men movie, will front the show as a judge, alongside Aussie fashion icon Peter Morrissey, who will provide style advice and get contestants -camera-ready'. The 400 aspiring actors will be whittled down to 12 finalists, with one winner given the opportunity to fast track their career and break into the industry, winning a movie contract and trip to Hollywood valued at 50K.
With adventure packed training in sight, 12 finalists will spend a week on the Gold Coast in a luxurious mansion competing in a variety of extreme challenges from abseiling down a 90 metre cliff, driving a V8 Supercar on a race track at speed, and skydiving from 15,000 feet, all to see who has what it takes to become the next action superstar.
Richard Norton says, "The film industry is crying for talented actors in the action genre – which is growing in demand globally following major premieres and movie hits such as Thor: Ragnarok, John Wick and the Marvel and DC action movie franchises.
"This series will quite possibly give one rising star their big break into this incredible industry."
The series, created by Action Star Entertainment, will donate all proceeds from the series live finale to Chris O'Brien Lifehouse for cancer research and treatment, following series' producer, Glenn Coxon's personal battle with cancer.
Gail O'Brien, patient advocate and director of the board at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse says, "Glenn has already raised thousands of dollars for us through his dedication to martial arts. He drew upon his training to see himself through his illness and he is now applying it to raising invaluable funds for cancer research and technology. We couldn't be more grateful".
The initial pilot series will air on global broadcaster Flipps Media which boasts 14 million installed users and 2 million regular users per week.
Action Star promises to have all the laughs and drama that Australians enjoy most from reality TV.
The finale event will be held on March 10 at Bankstown Sports Club.
