GISS Open Day

With over half the world's population being bilingual, there is now the opportunity for Sydney kids to have direct access to one of Sydney's leading multilingual schools. The German International School Sydney (GISS) provides a complete multilingual school education from Preschool to Year 12 and from behind their desks, GISS students are mentally transported to Germany, France and Spain, gaining an insight into the cultural workings and language fundamentals of worlds beyond their own.

Families wanting to learn more about a bilingual education system and the advantageous prospects it provides students, can join the GISS global community at their Open Day from 12pm to 3pm on Saturday 14th March.

Open Day will breakdown GISS' 'immersion schooling' approach, where the constant switch between languages drives students to become bilingual in an organic and sustainable way. The lifelong benefits of bilingualism have not gone unnoticed in recent years, as researchers continue to report the improved concentration and brain function seen from bilingualism, not to mention the workplace advantages of speaking another language.

GISS prides itself in effectively providing a beneficial dual-focused educational approach by combining the NSW syllabus with one of the German State Thuringen, while following the NSW school calendar year. Non German speaking students are welcome at GISS, as pupils are taught according to their individual language skill set in a nurturing environment, supported by peers and teachers on their bilingual journey.

Based on the Northern Beaches, broad access to GISS is provided via eight daily buses. Buses pick up and drop off at the school gates every day and are only available to GISS students from Preschoolers through to Senior School Students. The Ryde Glider, Chatswood Chaser, Northern Beaches Flyer, River Runner, Mosman Mover and the Manly, Hills and Pittwater Express reach as far as Parramatta, Thornleigh, Bayview and North Sydney.

The GISS Open Day will provide families the opportunity to talk to the Principal, ask teachers questions and join school tours led by senior students. Combined with the student tour guide's anecdotal commentary, prospective families can discover the contemporary facilities of the Terrey Hills campus and gain an authentic insight into GISS school life.
