Ginny Moon

It is with great enthusiasm and anticipation that HQ launches its inaugural title, Ginny Moon, a stunning debut novel by Benjamin Ludwig. Through an extraordinarily unique and compelling narrative that gets deep inside the head and heart of an autistic girl, Ludwig constructs a story that is at once big-hearted, suspenseful, moving, funny and heart-rending.

Fourteen-year-old Ginny lives with her Forever Parents, the loving couple who rescued her from a traumatic experience with her unfit, abusive mother. But despite the normalcy her new adopted family tries to instil in Ginny's life, she orders her reality in her own unique way. She is still obsessed with a baby doll that was left behind when the police took her from her mother, Gloria, and Ginny's dually precise and confused thoughts centre on her desire to return to Gloria and rescue the baby doll. This fixation to reclaim an idealised reality that never really existed sets in motion a harrowing series of events as Ginny contacts Gloria and plots to get kidnapped by her. As Ginny's perplexing thoughts and emotions are acutely related to this riveting narrative, Ludwig brilliantly captures the voice and soul of a singularly unforgettable heroine.

A life-long teacher of English and writing, Benjamin Ludwig lives in New Hampshire with his family. Shortly after he and his wife married they became foster parents and adopted a teenager with autism. Ginny Moon is his first novel.
