Getting Out of Debt Joyfully
Most of us have created debt and struggled with money at some point – whether it is finding ways to make money, spending too much money, or never having enough.
Simone Milasas, creative business coach, international business owner and author of the new book, Getting Out of Debt Joyfully, believes the points of view we are taught to have around money, the lack of a joyful relationship with money, as well as a deficit of pragmatic tools to easily change finances from any starting-point, keep us in unnecessary debt and money problems.
Milasas, who always created money and business no matter where she was in the world, was $187,000 in personal debt and avoiding awareness of her finances, until she attended a money class run by the founder of Access Consciousness, a global company for whom she is now Worldwide-Coordinator.
Milasas got out of debt within 2 years, but went almost immediately back into debt. She realised she had become comfortable with debt and would have to change the energy with which she viewed money if she wished to permanently change her financial world.
'You might expect me to say that it felt wonderful to be free of debt, but that wasn't so for me. I felt strange not having debt. I was more comfortable being in debt than out of it.
'My point of view is no one needs to have a money problem. No matter your situation, you can change it."
Getting Out of Debt Joyfully is a pragmatic and empowering guide of the tools Simone used to not only get out of debt but be financially free & thriving. The book highlights the limiting mindsets we have around money and invites you to create whatever it is you desire to have.
'I didn't want this to be just another book about money that seems difficult to apply. I would like everyone who reads this book to be empowered to change their debt and finances right now, and to actually create a financial future that keeps growing –in a way that works for you.
Most of all, Milasas stresses that money follows joy, not the other way around. 'People think if you make the money first, the joy will follow. The opposite is true. Money comes easier when you have joy first.

Interview with Simone Milasas
Question: Why did you write 'Getting Out of Debt Joyfully?
Simone Milasas: I wrote it because I have a great story. I was $187,000 in debt and I changed it when I didn't think I could. There are so many aspects of debt that people are unwilling to have a look at and I would like to invite everyone to have more awareness around money and actually have fun with money.
As my friend Dr. Dain Heer says, 'Money follows joy. Joy does not follow money." So, I wrote 'Getting Out of Debt Joyfully" for all of those people with strange looks, wondering how I did it. It was actually pretty simple. It's interesting to me that most things in life can be easy and we tend to make them hard. How many people make money significant when in truth, what you should be doing is having fun with money?
I wrote 'Getting Out of Debt Joyfully" to invite every single person in the world to their own awareness and to empower them to know what they know. Every single person has a different awareness of money and I would really like for everyone to realize that no one has to have a money problem.
Question: How can we shift our relationship with money?
Simone Milasas: Read the book. Use the tools.
There are so many tools in this book that will change your paradigms and shift your choices with money. The initial thing you really have to do is make a choice; make a demand of yourself and a request of the universe that you will change your current money situation no matter what. No matter what it takes and no matter what it looks like. It truly comes down to the choices that you make.
So, what choices are you making now? And, know that it's not always comfortable. Sometimes it can get really uncomfortable. It was actually really uncomfortable for me to have money in my bank account. Odd. Weird. But that's what showed up for me until I realized what I was creating and demanded that I change it; demanded of myself and requested of the universe.
Question: What is the initial step to climbing out of debt?
Simone Milasas: Choice. You've got to choose, ask questions and ask questions that are going to lead to more awareness of what you're currently creating and what changes you would have to make to create a different financial reality.
Question: What are your top 3 positive credit card habits?
Simone Milasas: 1. I use my credit card to my advantage for my frequent travel points. I travel all over the world and I am continuously getting upgrades for using my credit card.
2. A credit card is simply easy. It was created for ease and yet it was also created so people could take advantage of those who were not willing to be aware of using a credit card. If you're aware, then it can just be really easy.
3. Pay it off at the end of the month. And if you can't pay it off at the end of the month don't stress. Maybe you have a quiet month and maybe you spend more at Christmas time. But then, plan, ok, by the end of march, I'm going to have this all paid off. So, make a target so you do have it paid off by the end of the month. This way you do things like receive the frequent flyer points, etc. - you receive the ease of the credit card - and yet you're paying it off so you're not paying a high interest on it.
