The German International School Sydney (GISS) is set to host an interactive Careers Night on Saturday October 10th, giving youth a unique insight into careers through real experiences, by some of the leaders in their respective fields.
Amongst the professionals to feature on the night and share their first-hand experience is longest serving NSW Governor, Honourable Professor Dame Marie Bashir AD CVO lawyer and media commentator, Simone Whetton Chair in Artificial Intelligence at NICTA and Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW, Toby Walsh Associate Dean of Education from the University of NSW, Catherine Ellis and Design Director from Freeman Ryan Design, Susan Freeman and structural engineer and author, Saeed Fassaie.
Unlike traditional Career Expos which are primarily information based, the German International School's Careers Night will be an open discussion, utilising a Q&A format, allowing students and parents the opportunity to engage and ask questions with the panel of real industry professionals.
The night will also include a series of smaller one-on-one discussion break-out groups for students to get up close and personal with the experts, and probe further into a field that may have sparked their interest. A wide gamut of industries will be represented including medicine, law, education, engineering and interior design.
The Careers Night was organised by GISS's Cultural Centre, in direct response to questions raised by its senior students. However, the wider Northern Beaches community is invited to join in this interactive event. 'The night is primarily aimed at students in years 9 to 12, who may be unsure of their career path and want to explore the avenues available," Says Sarah Robson of the German International School Sydney.
