An exotic city of secrets, an Italian seduction... A place to start again
Acclaimed director Michael Winterbottom (Wonderland, Tristram Shandy, A Mighty Heart) assembles a powerhouse cast in this haunting, suspenseful drama.
After the sudden death of his wife (Hope Davis), university professor Joe (Colin Firth) is offered a position in Italy by an old colleague, Barbara (Catherine Keener).
The sun-soaked city of Genova birthplace of Christopher Columbus provides a fresh start for Joe and his daughters, teenager Kelly (Willa Holland) and her younger sister Mary (Perla Haney-Jardine). As Barbara introduces the family to the city with its shadow-cloaked medieval alleyways and the captivating beauty of the Cinque Terre coastline, they each adapt to their new life in different ways. Kelly finds herself attracted to the sexy, dangerous underbelly of this mysterious new world, but Mary struggles to move on, blaming herself for their mother's accident. Even Joe finds himself embarking on a new romance, but danger lurks around every picturesque corner...
