On Friday 9th September, over 200 foster carers and Out of Home Care workers will come together at Parliament House to acknowledge and celebrate Foster Care Week 11th-17th September.
Minister for Children, Young People and Families, Jenny Mikakos and special guests will meet with carers to thank them for opening their hearts and their homes to children and young people every day across Victoria.
This year's theme of 'A Place at the Table" represents more than 2000 Victorian households who find a place at their table for the children and young people in foster care.
During Foster Care Week, events are being held around the state for foster carers, as a way to show thanks and bring foster carers together. Refer to this list for local events: https://www.fcav.org.au/news/foster-care-week-events-calendar-a-place-at-the-table
'Foster Care Week provides an opportunity to recognise and thank foster carers everywhere. These are the ordinary Victorians who do an extraordinary job in our community by providing loving homes for young people who desperately need them. The Foster Care Association hears from foster carers every day who are facing difficulties with a process or a hurdle in the system, so we take this opportunity to recognise the importance of what they do and raise awareness of how the system for providing care could be improved for them and their young ones at home." FCAV CEO Katie Hooper said today.
