Foley Time of My Life

Foley Time of My Life

Harnessing vibrant energy and exceptional melody, NZ-made (and now Aussie-based) duo Foley have returned with their new single – a beautifully paced and energetic pop track called 'Time Of My Life'.

Following on from the release of their debut album Crowd Pleaser in 2023,  Foley entered a new phase of creativity – one powered by boosted confidence and a clarity in vision when it came to the soundscapes they wanted to create. Between members Gabe Everett and Ash Wallace, Foley has conjured and sustained a striking fusion of guitar-driven and electronic pop that fit seamlessly with the exciting wave of young artists pushing the genre in Aotearoa forward, and into other markets.

Bolstered by the success of Crowd Pleaser and the ensuing tours in Aotearoa and Australia that followed in the second half of the year, Foley began working on their next collection of material; debuted earlier this year with the effervescent single, 'Miss You All The Time', then followed up by 'Low and High' – a release that garnered a huge 100k streams in just three days, as well as landing on Spotify playlists including Pop n' Fresh, chill AF, Happy Pop Hits, New Music Friday AU/NZ, New Pop Revolution and more.

With the release of 'Time Of My Life', Foley adds another strong foundation that is set to be built upon, as they prepare for more new releases as we move further into 2024. The song is a beautiful blend of bright sonics and cathartic songwriting. As Foley anticipates an exciting new chapter, one that has seen them relocate from their home in Aotearoa, to their new base of Sydney, a song like 'Time Of My Life' couldn't be released at a more fitting time.

For the song, Foley worked with songwriter and producer Josh Naley (Ant Saunders, Thomson, Navvy, Rikii Reid) and recorded 'Time Of My Life'  in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland); completing the dream team of creatives, Foley collaborated with Hamish Patrick (Gretta Ray, Blusher, Joji) and Sam Moses (me&you, Emeli Sande) on mixing and mastering.

"We are so confident now in what Foley's sound is after releasing our first album… Time Of My Life is a pivotal part of that because it's so joyous, so unapologetic, and so genuinely aspirational.  The song starts from a place of wanting more for yourself that the mundane day to day life you are living. It's truly born from ambition and dreaming of a ferociously chaotic and AWAKE life.

We wanted to lean into a feeling of need and desperation for some excitement - which led to a lot of quite dramatic lyrics like, "At the end of the night, I kind of feel like I'm dying," talking about being stuck in your hometown at the same old party with the same old people, being pleasant to everyone but inside absolutely screaming to leave.

The song is a craving for new memories, new stories, and letting yourself be free to make mistakes and learn from them. The production is just as chaotic and loose as the song's meaning which was such a pleasure to work on. Josh Naley, our wonderful producer, absolutely let it rip and made the song such a joy to listen to and play because it feels so free."  FOLEY

Having already established a dynamic reputation as a studio and live unit in their home country prior to the release of Crowd Pleaser, having toured consistently as headliners and support for artists including Remi Wolf, Tove Lo, Flight Facilities and BENEE, Foley really kicked things up another notch with the release of their debut album.

In the lead up to its release, Foley secured a coveted digital billboard in Times Square, NYC as part of Spotify's EQUAL campaign, as well as enjoying support for the album's singles including 'Killing Me Babe', 'Smooth It Over' and 'What Got Into You'. Crowd Pleaser landed at #2 on the NZ Albums Chart upon its debut, becoming the #1 selling physical record during its release week. At the same time, Foley were making further inroads into the Australian scene, enjoying a successful run at BIGSOUND and SXSW Sydney for 2023; while also completing a sold out nationwide album tour in Aotearoa.

This year saw the duo become Aotearoa Music Award nominees (Best Pop Artist), enjoy a sold out five date tour through Los Angeles and New York in April/May; they also found themselves on one of pop culture's biggest radars, when 'Killing Me Babe' was featured on the recent season finale of The Kardashians.
