Question: What is WiWander?

Fangli Lim: WiWander is keeping Australian travellers connected abroad with the launch of their portable pocket WiFi router now available for rent online. Travellers can now experience the ease of connecting to WiFi from any location with the pocket sized device which provides unlimited WiFi access, eliminating the need to hunt for WiFi elsewhere.

The WiWander pocket WiFi router is a personal wireless router that connects Wi-Fi-enabled devices to the internet with a secure network connection; just like the Wi-Fi you have at home, only a portable, pocket version. It has been designed with travellers in mind and includes features they have been longing for but haven't yet received including a sleek, light weight and portable design, and simultaneous multiple device connectivity. The WiWander pocket Wi-Fi is pre-configured ready to connect.

Question: Can you talk about the cost involved with using WiWander?

Fangli Lim: Renters will receive unlimited Wi-Fi data and pocket router rental from only $5 AUD per day.The WiWander device is pre-configured ready to connect as soon it is in the hands of the renter.

Question: How does WiWander work?

Fangli Lim: WiWander connects Wi-Fi-enabled devices to the internet with a secure network connection; just like the Wi-Fi you have at home, only a portable, pocket version.

There are four easy steps to secure your own WiWander device:
Step 1 – Book and pay at least 5 business days out from your trip
Step 2 – Router delivered to your address at least one day before your departure.

Step 3 – Enjoy unlimited Wi-Fi for the duration of your trip.
Step 4 – Courier collects the router from your address one day after your arrival.

Once you have arrived at your location:
1. Turn off mobile data on your devices to avoid costly roaming charges.
2. Turn on the WiWander Pocket Wi-Fi router.
3. Enable the Wi-Fi function on your devices
4. Search nearby Wi-Fi and select the network name (SSID)
5. Enter the password onto your devices
6. You're now connected!

Question: How will WiWander help us avoid mobile phone bill shock?

Fangli Lim: Forget data roaming – Avoid nasty bill shock by turning off your data roaming and location services prior to your trip. These data drainers can then be managed using the WiWander Wi-Fi device while on holidays or business trips. Ms Lim said WiWander rental is based on the number of days the customer will travel, unlike other services that charge customers for the amount of data used. The WiWander device allows travellers experience the ease of connecting to Wi-Fi from any location with the pocket sized device which provides unlimited Wi-Fi access, eliminating the need to hunt for Wi-Fi elsewhere.

Switch off 3G and use Wi-Fi only – When booking accommodation, it s a great idea to look into accommodation with free Wi-Fi to ensure the use of 3G and 4G data is not drained. To avoid limiting accommodation and not being able to instantly capture and upload holiday memories, WiWander is helping Australian travellers to stay connected with on the go Wi-Fi access allowing them to share their experiences in real time.

Question: How can we prepare our data prior to a holiday?

Fangli Lim: Turn off background data/automatic updates – High frequency email systems, Facebook updates, automatic app updates and other background activities are hidden data drainers. Turn off your background data where possible and reduce the amount of data used while you are not on the phone.

Purchase a local SIM card – Purchasing a local SIM card offers the same abilities as an Australian SIM card but at a lower price.

Question: Who and where can we use WiWander?

Fangli Lim: Whether Australians are travelling overseas for leisure or business, WiWander can provide access to unlimited WiFi while roaming. WiWander pocket wifi is currently available in Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, China, South Korea, USA, Malaysia, Thailand and some countries in Europe.
