Tinker Bell- A Tinker fairy
She is spirited, rebellious, impatient, impulsive, determined and persistent yet, always charming and loveable. She has a talent for tinkering, and when she is called on to save the day, Tink discovers the importance of her own true talents.
Terence A Boy Fairy
Tink's best friend from the Sparrow Men, Terence is a Pixie Dust Fairy, meaning he distributes the daily ratio of Pixie Dust to all fairies in Pixie Hollow. Terence tries to help Tinker Bell build the scepter which leads to her quest to find the Lost Treasure. Terence is an integral part of the adventure and friendship themes in the story.
Blaze- A Firefly
Blaze is a young firefly; he's mischievous, inventive and enthusiastic and uses his light as a flashlight, spotlight or SOS. Tell us a little bit about Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure:
Ellen Jin Over: Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure is about friends and how they learn to form a friendship as well as taking on an adventure. Tinker Bell goes on an adventure to an unknown place and what she encounters is an experience that she hasn't experienced before.
What other fairies are in this Disney movie?
Ellen Jin Over: There a few fairies that a really close to Tinker Bell. We have Fawn, she's an animal fairy and Silvermist who is a water fairy and Rosetta who is a garden fairy.
Explain the eco-fashion modeled by Tinker Bell:
Ellen Jin Over: We were given an opportunity to design what the female fairies were going to wear. This movie takes place in fall and we wanted to keep up with the clothing that is proper for the girls to wear in fall. Especially Tinker Bell because she is going on an adventure she needed a different type of clothing, instead of wearing her usual short dress. As they're fairies the outfits needed to be made out of really natural material so we searched for a lot of materials and designed the clothing out of natural leaves and feathers as well as different types of other materials. We are proud to say these are eco-friendly clothing because they are all made of 100% natural materials.
Is Tinker Bell still dressed in her traditional green colour?
Ellen Jin Over: Yes, we tried to keep the girls, the main fairies, in their usual colour scheme. We kept the colour scheme the same as their original clothing.
What happens behind the scenes of a Disney movie?
Ellen Jin Over: It is a lot of effort from a lot of people. It involves writers and directors and people from different levels of Disney. We are very grateful to have such a large team. It begins with a story being created and it is a 3D movie so we needed to create an animated character 3D environment. It takes a lot of 3D animators and designers.
Did you ever thing you would work for Disney?
Ellen Jin Over: It has always been a big dream of mine and I never thought it would come true- this early in my life. I loved reading Disney, the published books with beautiful illustrations from Sleeping Beauty and Snow White and watching clips of the movies. I always wanted to create something beautiful in the world that Disney created. Now, 13 years into my career, I get to work at Disney. It is truly a great honour.
How did you begin working with Disney?
Ellen Jin Over: It was a combination of things. A friend of mine was already working at Disney and she gave me a little tip 'they are looking for an art director, so if you want to, apply for it…' When I did, I submitted my resume, they were happy. For ten years prior to Disney I had gained a lot of experience through jobs as an art director, overseeing tasks and as a painter so my experience with 3D productions and knowing 2D got me a great job. I had a portfolio with past experiences- and he saw my portfolio and thought it was good enough. It was really a combination of things.
How do you feel when you see the finish product?
Ellen Jin Over: It is a wonderful feeling, when you in the middle you are very busy and you feel like you are always going somewhere- it is a big process, sometimes you think 'Oh My! This is never going to be made!' To see the project completed, on time, and looking beautiful and ready to be shown all around the world is a great feeling.
Who is your favourite Disney character?
Ellen Jin Over: Well, one of my favourite Disney movies is The Little Mermaid- because of her ability to break out of a tradition and adventure- I love the character and her singing voice. I wish I could sing like her- she has very lovely hair!
