Domestic Violence Survivor and White Ribbon Ambassador Take On Mudderella Melbourne

Domestic violence survivor and White Ribbon Advocate, Simone O'Brien, will join forces with a group of strong women at Melbourne's St Anne's Winery on 3 December 2016, to demonstrate they are literally capable of anything, by taking part in the global leader in women's mud runs – Mudderella.

Mudderella is a 9km muddy obstacle course, created for women, by women, and is designed to test every participant's balance and strength, encouraging teams to work together to overcome each obstacle.

Simone has signed up to Mudderella with her team -Never Give Up', which includes 10 family and friends who she considers her support network.

'To me, Mudderella is an event that gives women the chance to really show their -never give up' attitude and test their own strength and determination.

'It's fantastic to see how Mudderella brings women together to conquer life's challenges and support each other. Just think, if I can do it after what I've been through, then anyone can do it," added Simone.

Simone's horrific ordeal of domestic violence at the hands of her vicious attacker saw her spend one month in intensive care, fighting for her life. It has been a long road to recovery and despite still receiving treatment, Simone still trains for events like Mudderella and a marathon that she will race in October.

'Because I've lost my sight in one eye from my attack, I now see the world differently from people who have two eyes. I believe life is all about having a go, enjoying yourself and not giving up on the goals you set out to achieve," said Simone.

Paul Mudge, from Tough Mudder Australia said that Mudderella is a strong and empowering event that attracts thousands of Aussie women who want to tackle a fun challenge together with their friends.

'We hope to see a great turnout at the upcoming Mudderella Melbourne event, not only to see teams test their balance, strength and teamwork, but also to continue our support of White Ribbon and the amazing work they are doing to prevent domestic violence in Australia.

'We are lucky to have such a strong and inspiring Advocate like Simone and we hope that everyone gets on board to support this cause as well as get a bit muddy and have fun at the same time," said Paul.
