It's that time of year again as the dry season rolls into town and the team at Darwin Festival announces their first taste of the upcoming August extravaganza. Darwin Festival 2013 is officially launched on Tuesday, 25 June and kicks off on Thursday, 8 August. But until then, we are pleased to announce four shows that will go on sale to the public at 10am on Wednesday, 15 May.
Returning for her second year at the helm, Artistic Director Edwina Lunn, brings an abundance of national and international talent to the Tropics once again. With a distinct passion for both challenging and tantalising audiences, Lunn and her team will deliver a smorgasbord of music, theatre, special events, cabaret, comedy, dance and then some.
'There is a great deal of excitement brewing as we make the final adjustments and additions to the program for Darwin Festival 2013," says Lunn. 'It's always a hectic, but vibrant time of year with very little sleep and a stack of adrenaline to get us through - much like the actual Festival month itself."
'We promise to entertain audiences with a variety of works that are as bold as they are intriguing," says Lunn. 'Following the success of last year's Hot August Nights, in my first year as Artistic Director, I am humbled to return with a program that I am both proud of and excited to see myself."
Four shows will be on sale from Wednesday, 15 May including: the return of last year's hottest ticket La Soirée, a blend of circus vaudeville and salacious burlesque; Aussie rock'n'roll demons You Am I with Hi Fi Daily Double, a back-to-back concert featuring their most iconic albums Hi Fi Way and Hourly Daily; Queen of Fabulous, comedian Julia Morris with her only live show for 2013; and one of Australia's most revered musicians, Archie Roach with his inspirational show, Into the Bloodstream.
