Creative Textile Show

Visiting Australia's art capital for the first time, the annual Creative Textile Show will open its doors in Canberra, enticing textile and craft enthusiasts from near and far to immerse themselves in a textile show like no other -where creativity and imagination meet'.

From May 2 to 4 at the National Convention Centre, the Creative Textile Show will provide a spectacular array of daily classes where visitors can learn to make everything from mixed-media masterpieces to exquisite tassels, rainbow dyeing to aluminum art and even Japanese kazanshi flowers made from kimono fabrics. Visitors will be captivated by free floor talks and demonstrations and bedazzled by stunning displays from the unrivalled talent of textile artists from Australia and around the world.  The event also presents a unique shopping opportunity with an exceptional array of craft, sewing and textile products including many at bargain prices.

Highlights of the show include renowned Passamenterie artisan, Morrison Polkinghorne who will have visitors totally tasseled with the latest in décor embellishments when he teaches fun and informative classes covering basic tassel making and a unique old-fashioned 18th century technique of beaded tassels. Visitors can also step back in time with the very regal and historical -Lace through the Ages' display including lace from a bolt of fabric used in the wedding between Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William, plus an exclusive vintage lace pieces more than 200 years old.

A fabulous display of millinery including race wear, vintage 1940's pieces and men's hats are also set to turn heads with the colourful -Heads up on Hats' exhibition brought to the show by the Riverina Millinery Association Inc. The ACT Textile Arts Association will also inspire visitors daily, showcasing an exciting and vibrant array of textile mediums including exquisite silk scarves, creative felt outfits, intricate knitted tea cozies and modish mixed-media artworks as well as exciting daily demonstrations.
