THE PERFUME GARDEN BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND
Athenaeum Theatre Hosts Australian Bollywood Play
After sell out sessions at a season at Albert Park's Gasworks Theatre, playwright Rajendra Moodley's The Perfume Garden will be returning for an extended season at the Athenaeum Theatre on Collins Street.
Melbournians who missed out the first time, will get a second chance at experiencing the Bollywood romantic comedy from October 17th - November 3rd, 2007.
"Hilarious situational comedy the strong cast revels in bringing to life"
Cameron Woodhead, The Age August 2007
Set in an outer-suburb of Melbourne, The Perfume Garden explores some of multicultralism's absurdities. Chitra and Satya sell spices and want nothing more than their son, Anand, to marry a nice young Indian girl who will help him take over their business. Devi is the perfect match, however Anand is reluctant to set a date.
"A joyful melange of music, movement and comedy that is sure to entice"
Rebecca Cook, Inpress August 2007
When a genie, in the shape of the paralysed Aunt Ayah, magically appears, she unleashes the aspect of Anand that his parents have tried to supress and liberates Anand from the narrow path planned for him.
"Liberating magic...enormously enjoyable"
Helen Thompson, The Age 2004
