Gran Torino tells the story of a Korean War veteran, Walt Kowalski (EASTWOOD). After recently losing his wife Walts children begin pressuring him to movefrom his Detroit neighbourhood, into a senior citizens home.

Walt refuses to leave his home he has lived in for decades, despite his dislike to the changing demographics in the neighbourhood. The film intensifies when Walts prejudices are brought to the forefront when Thao (BEE VANG), the teenage son of the Hmong family next door, tries to steal his mint condition 1972 Grand Torino car. A reluctant friendship between Walt and Thao begins as they both explore the new world that can open up, when individuals let down their guard, even for just a moment.

GRAN TORINO is an inspiring story which highlights the unlikely bonds that people form to navigate through thesubtle complexities of every day life. A blockbuster smash-hit at the box-office, GRAN TORINO garnered a huge$16.1m locally, and $147.1m worldwide and is the must-have DVD or blu-ray for your collection this June.

Korean War vet and retired autoworker Walt Kowalski doesn't much like how his life or his neighbourhood has turned out. He especally doesn't like the people next door, Hmong immigrants from Southest Asia. But events force Walt to defend those neighbors against a local gang that feeds on violence and fear. For the first time since Million Dollar Baby, Clint Eastwood works on both sides of the camera, winning the National Board of Review Award as Best Actor for his bone-deep playing of Kowalski, burnished with experience, grace and gravitas into a "prime vintage Eastwood performance" (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone).

Clint Eastwood directs himself as Walt Kowalski, a retired Ford assembly line worker, Korean War vet and professional racist. We meet him at the funeral of his wife, surrounded by insufferable children and intolerable grandkids. His family is wondering what to do with him now that he cant take care of himself. They clearly dont know him very well. Walt is full of bile and is as sprightly as a bigoted old man can be. His inventive vocabulary is extended towards his Hmong neighbours, who have taken over his formerly Polish neighborhood. Most of his hostility is reserved for shy Thao (Vang), the boy next door, when (upon the insistence of his gang leader cousin Spider) he tries to steal Walts beloved Ford Gran Torino. Enter Walt, with rifle.
