Celebrate Chinese New Year with The Star

The Star is celebrating the Lunar Festival and Year of the Sheep with delicious Asian themed menus, traditional Chinese celebrations, exotic cultural entertainment and more.

 

The Star is also proud Leadership Partner of City of Sydney's Chinese New Year celebrations across Sydney including the Lunar Markets, Lunar Streets, the Chinese New Year Twilight Parade and Dragon Boat Racing. The festival celebrates Sydney's rich Asian culture and will run from 13 February to 1 March.

Lunar Feasts at Balla | 5 February-1 March

 

Choose from Balla's menu of modern Italian cuisine, or enjoy items on their Chinese New Year menu either on their own or as a 3-course meal ($75):

Lunar Markets | 12-22 February

 

Celebrate the Lunar New Year at The Sydney Morning Herald Lunar Markets presented by The Star. An 11 day festival celebrating Asian cuisine and culture in the heart of Pyrmont Bay Park. This brand new event is free to attend and if you liked the Night Noodle Markets, you won't want to miss this. 

You can choose your New Year banquet from a selection of stalls including The Star's Fat Noodle and The Century. Add nightly entertainment and two bars, including a VIP area for Citi customers and fun seating areas from The Star, Sapporo Beer and China's national spirit, Moutai and you have the perfect spot to welcome in the Year of the Sheep with family or friends.

Lunar Feasts at The Century| 13 February-1 March

 

Choose from The Century's signature dishes or enjoy a banquet featuring The Century Lo Hei Salad – a popular Chinese New Year dish featuring salmon sashimi.

​During Chinese New Year Sky Terrace will be open every day. Enjoy a sunset cocktail or maybe a boutique brew, and choose from a delicious menu while live DJs provide the perfect soundscape to the panoramic views over Sydney Harbour and the city skyline.

 

Chinese New Year Performances at The Star | 12 February-1 March

The Star will play host to a range of daily performances throughout Chinese New Year including lion dancers, stilt performers, Chinese musicians, drummers, magicians, fruit carvers, mime artists, puppet shows and cultural dancers. Daily performances at Edward St entrance and The Star letters on ​Pirrama Rd plus throughout the casino from 4:30pm to 8:30pm. Best of all, it's free!

 

The Star Mahjong Lounge at Lunar Streets | 14 February

 

Sydney's Chinatown, Thaitown and Koreatown are turning on a feast for Lunar Streets, City of Sydney's new event for Chinese New Year.

 

Enjoy the warmth of a Sydney summer night than dining with family, friends (or even a special Valentine) at one of the long outdoor tables set up along the street.

 

Learn to play the traditional Chinese game of Mahjong at The Star's Mahjong Lounge.

 

Chinese New Year Twilight Parade | 22 February

 

Celebrate the year of the Sheep at this year's spectacular Twilight Parade, with magical lanterns, floats and projections lighting up the streets. The colour and spectacle of the Chinese New Year Twilight Parade will start from George St outside Sydney Town Hall at 8pm on Sunday 22 February. The Star is thrilled to have its very own float with Star team members celebrating the Lunar New Year in spectacular style. The parade will weave its way to Darling Harbour for an impressive closing fireworks display.

 

Jeff Chang Concert | 24 February

 

Known as the "Prince of Love Ballads" in the Asian pop world, Jeff Chang has been a popular singer in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and South East Asia since he released a string of highly victorious albums in 1989. With his very unique high-pitched voice and sentimental love songs, he has been awarded at numerous music festivals and channels. Jeff will perform at The Star's Sydney Lyric Theatre on Tuesday 24 February from 8:15pm.

Dragon Boat Racing | 29 February –1 March

 

For more than 2,000 years, Dragon Boat racing has had a special place in Chinese culture, with 12-metre long boats battling it out to the pounding of drums. This year's heart stopping Dragon Boat racing competition will taking place at various times from 9am, Thursday 29 February-Sunday 1 March. The Star will have their very own boat manned by over 24 Star team members from various disciplines from security and wait staff to finance.

 

Jonathan Lee Concert | 8 March

 

Renowned Chinese pop superstar Jonathan Lee and his full band will perform at the Star Event Centre for one show only.

 

Lee is hailed as one of the godfathers of Taiwanese Mandopop. He was one of the most successful producers of the 1990s and 2000s and has been credited with building Rock Records into the foremost independent label in Asia.
