How do you begin to describe Cal Wilson? Cat lover? Author? World Traveler? Musical theatre aficionado? Lover of a bold pattern? All-round funny lady? Gifted underachiever?
As one of only a small group of comedians who were hand-picked from around the globe to have their very own Netflix comedy special as part of new stand-up comedy series Comedians of the World, I reckon most people would agree that 'a gifted world-class comedian with her very own Netflix special' fits very nicely.
Yet despite clearly kicking some serious career and comedy goals (she was invited to the very prestigious Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal to perform and film her special), Cal still feels like she hasn't quite nailed this whole life thing.
Cal's not sure if she has imposter syndrome or if she's just faking it. Everyone else seems to have it together but she's still not sure she has all the pieces.
Why don't people pull over for ambulances? Has she done enough with her life? Does anyone eat Brussel sprouts by choice? Cal has questions about everything, which makes her annoying to watch a movie with.
For a decade and a half, Cal's been on screens and stages everywhere firmly cementing herself as one of the most down-to-earth, charming and accomplished comedians in the country. A passionate storyteller, Cal has also been the host of the worldwide smash-hit storytelling format The Moth's monthly live shows in Melbourne.
In 2018, Cal toured her solo show Hindsight, which drew sold out crowds to comedy festivals around Australia and appeared on the Melbourne International Comedy Festival's Oxfam Gala. 2019 is no doubt going to be another impressive year for the comedian who has a children's book coming out in February with Scholastic, George and the Great Bum Stampede. (Did we mention her name was up on a billboard in New York Times Square in early Jan 2019?) It sounds like Cal is doing juuuuuust fine in this life…just not according to her.
Always a festival favourite, do not miss Cal in her brand new show - in which she will most certainly not be faking it.
