Australian Sevens and current Northern Suburbs Rugby Club first grade player, Michael -Wellzey' Wells will be kicking goals when he teams up with local healthy burger expert Grill'd and the Norths for a community initiative to raise funds for the club from 29th-31st May.
Specially created for the -Burger for Balls' fundraising weekend, the favourite -Almighty Burger' has made a conversion into a limited edition burger, the winning -Almighty Shoremen'. Not only is the -Almighty Shoremen' the ultimate healthy burger experience but $5 from every burger sold at Grill'd Neutral Bay will be donated to the Norths to purchase new equipment, sporting fields and medical services.
Simon Crowe, Grill'd Founder and MD says: 'Our mission is to make burgers that taste good and do you good and part of this mission is to support the local community which we've done since we opened more than 10 years ago. This is the perfect opportunity for two healthy local groups to team up to help support the local community."
A major community group with a strong reach from juniors to seniors and singles to families, the Norths is the mothership club for Mosman Juniors, the North Sydney Pirates and Hunters Hill. For over 100 years, the club has been producing players for the Wallabies, Waratahs and Australian Sevens including Wellzey. A current Norths first grade player, he has recently signed a full-time contract with the Australian Sevens and has represented Australia at the Under 20s level.
Wellzey says: 'I love Grill'd and the work they're involved in for the local community so I jumped at the chance to join in with this fundraiser. I'm excited that they're supporting grass roots community rugby and even more so since they're supporting my club. The burgers taste great at Grill'd and what's more, with -Burgers for Balls', $5 goes to the rugby club so you'll be doing a great thing for the community too and helping to increase participation in the club at all levels."
Club Captain Geoffrey Wells agrees: 'The aim of the event is to engage everyone in a great cause, helping this community rugby club that has been launching careers for over a century. Grass roots rugby ties players together with the community and every player past and present is a Shoreman. With Wellzey and Grill'd in the game, we're positive that the -Almighty Shoreman' will help achieve our fundraising goals."
To help raise funds and support Norths Rugby, head down to Grill'd Neutral Bay from Friday 29th May to Sunday 31st May and try a limited edition -Almighty Shoremen' burger where $5 from each burger will go towards equipment for the Northern Suburbs Rugby Club.
