Blaq Carrie Musashi Freestyle Interview

Fresh off the release from her single "Musashi Freestyle," Brisbane-based Zimbabwe rapper, Blaq Carrie returns with captivating visuals for the single.

The menacing freestyle-cyber inspired single sees BC rap with confidence, name dropping individuals who she thinks are iconic in their own right. She then gets vulnerable showcasing two sides of her creative personality.

The colourful visuals was directed by Grace Julia. The video is a fiesta of light and colour drawing inspiration from some of the glossiest hip-hop clips of the 2000s'. Set against a white CYC splashed with royal colours, BC performs in a holographic jacket inside a super car and atop a throne, with a joint and flag in hand.

"I have established a good relationship with Grace Julia making this our third collaboration project. So when it came to visuals for this one I just reached out to her. I usually give directors creative freedom first when creating the vision board and then slowly together finalise what I like the most"

The single is off her upcoming album "RUWA" due to drop in March 2021. Until then, BC will be dropping a slew of releases to mark her iconic return.

Having maintained a strong presence in the scene, BC was born and raised in Zimbabwe and is now based in Brisbane, Australia. After releasing her debut single 'Let There Be Hope' in 2013 she experienced a break-out year, winning the Triple J Unearthed Spring Hip Hop Festival competition and winning the Queensland Music Award 'Best Urban Song' and the Australian Independent Award and Music Video Award as well. BC is ready to make 2021 her year.

Interview with Blaq Carrie

Question: How would you describe your music?

Blaq Carrie: I would like to think my music is inspiring, positive and always embodies a quality of feeling of self believe plus self confidence.


Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Blaq Carrie: Hmm that's a hard one but honestly it's 'Let There Be Hope'. It's the first single I released a professional recording artist. I went through a lot to create it and when I finally released I was so happy how it was received. It's the only song that regardless of the crowd it always resonates with individuals.


Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Blaq Carrie: It's a double edge sword. But recording definitely. It's always an emotional train when it comes to recording.


Question: What motivates you most when writing music?

Blaq Carrie: My family to be honest. I have this gift, so I feel it's my duty to show them how far I can really take it.

Blaq Carrie: Black Thought, Wale, Aaliyah and Sauti Sol


Question: What or who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Blaq Carrie: Lauryn Hill


Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Blaq Carrie: At this very moment Jean Grae. Would love to get a feature from her for my next album.

Question: Did you have any pre-conceived ideas about the music industry?

Blaq Carrie: Oh definitely. Everything is definitely not what it seems to be behind the scenes.


Question: What's a typical day like?

Blaq Carrie: Morning bowl of oats, checking emails, drink 2 litres of water, listen/watch a podcast, and maybe go through beats


Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Blaq Carrie: When someone tells me that my music helped them get out of a bad funk.


Question: Can you tell us 5 things required for a happy healthy and enjoyable life?

Blaq Carrie: Drinking 2 litres of water a day, listening to music, a cold beer, good relationship with your family and spirituality.
