While on tour in Australia last month, Beyoncé cultivated a very special relationship with a group of Aussie kids. Beyoncé has shared their stories with her 52 million fans on Facebook via a new video about Barnardos Australia; watch it here.
Back in September, Beyoncé chose Barnardos Australia as her official #BeyGood local charity partner on the Australian leg of her 'Mrs Carter Show" world tour. Barnardos volunteers manned mobile clothing donation stations at each concert and collected over 3.3 tonnes of clothing for disadvantaged families while spreading their message to fans about the vital work the charity does in the belief that every child deserves a safe and loving home.
After learning more about the important work Barnardos does to support Australian families in crisis and change to the lives of children and young people, Beyoncé commissioned her production team to produce a video about Barnardos mission to help spread their message to her fans.
To thank Beyoncé for choosing Barnardos as her local #BeyGood charity partner, a group of children and young people in Barnardos programs made a special video for her which showed them dancing and singing to her hit 'Love on Top". Little did the youngsters know that Beyoncé would turn soon turn them into global internet stars. Watch their 'thank you Beyoncé" video here.
Touched and impressed by their efforts, Beyoncé herself insisted on surprising them at a private meet and greet in Sydney before treating them to the best seats in the house for her sold out concert. The video features footage of Beyoncé watching the young people's video for her and then the star-struck kids meeting their idol. For these amazing kids who have faced so much in their young lives, meeting Beyoncé and discovering she believed in them was a life changing event.
In yet another show of support for Barnardos, Uncle Bruce Shillingsworth Snr, Aboriginal Education Support Worker for Barnardos Australia, was invited to open the show that night with a Welcome to Country and played his didgeridoo before Beyoncé took to the stage for the sold-out Sydney show.
Also while in Australia, Barnardos Australia awarded Beyoncé as Honorary Barnardos Mother of the Year 2014 to acknowledge her for inspiring her fans to be good, be charitable and be kind to others and the community.
Introduced by the charity in 1994, Barnardos Mother of the Year is the only national awards publically acknowledging Australia's mothers and is considered the highest honour for mothers in Australia.
Nominations are open now and close on February 15th 2014. Nominate at: www.MotherOfTheYear.com.au
