The Helpmann Award winner, Gold Logie nominated and South Sydney tragic, Adam Hills, is one of Australia's most popular comedians. As host of the much-loved and perennial favourite Spicks and Specks Adam, Myf Warhurst and Alan Brough ruled Wednesday nights. His television programs Adam Hills in Gordon Street Tonight and Adam Hills Live showed how good chat shows should be done. In 2012, Adam took the UK by storm with his satricial news and talk show, The Last Leg. Now in it's twelfth series, The Last Leg originally ran alongside the 2012 Paralympics and regularly attracts over 1.8 million viewers in the UK.
Best Foot Forward is a collection of Adam's stories gathered over thirty years of doing comedy. From the early days of the Sydney stand-up scene, to hosting his own radio show in Adelaide, to touring the world, and eventually landing on British TV. Along the way Adam shares some childhood tales, a few backstage blunders, and encounters some fairly famous faces - from Whoppi Goldberg and Billy Connolly, to the guy that sang the Macarena. No, not that guy, the other guy.
It's a lesson in following your heart, being positive, and discovering that what makes you different also makes you unqiue.
Hachette Australia Head of Non-Fiction, Vanessa Radnidge says everyone at Hachette Australia is excited to be publishing Best Foot Forward. "I like many others, have been addicted to Spicks and Specks and love Adam Hills Live and The Last Leg. In his stand-up and his television shows, Adam's intelligence and heart shines through and his topical rants on The Last Leg highlight both his humanity and wickedly insightful humour."
Hodder Media Publisher Briony Gowlett says, "The joy of Adam is that he is never nasty, mean-spirited or shocking for effect, but instead it's his gift for taking on subjects that are notoriously hard to tackle - and somehow making them funny - that has endeared him to audiences. We're delighted to be publishing his first book."
Adam said: "Whenever I'd tell my comedy stories to people, they'd say "You should write them down in a book". I'm just so grateful that finally one of those people was a publisher."
Best Foot Forward by Adam Hills will be published in Australia in August, 2018.
