The 24th annual Alliance Française French Film Festival is delighted to announce a host of special screening events, to be held at participating Palace Cinemas, to celebrate the attendance of renowned chef, Danièle Mazet-Delpeuch and acclaimed filmmaker, Benoît Jacquot, who will both be visiting Australia as guests of Festival.

One of France's most revered directors, Benoît Jacquot, will be presenting his latest film Farewell, My Queen (Les adieux à la Reine), which stars Diane Kruger as the tragic Marie-Antoinette. In addition to receiving 10 nominations at the 2013 César Awards, including 'Best Picture' and 'Best Director', Farewell, My Queen opened the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival and was the winner of the Louis-Delluc Prize 2012. Benoît will be guest-of-honour at the Festival's opening nights in Brisbane and Adelaide and will attend the following screenings in Sydney, Canberra and Adelaide:
Monday 18 March: 6.30pm session of Farewell, My Queen, Palace Norton Street, followed by Q&A
Adelaide: Wednesday 20 March: 6.30pm session of Farewell, My Queen, Palace Nova Eastend, followed by Q&A

Interview with Benoit Jacquot

Question: What are you looking forward to most about attending the Alliance Française French Film Festival?

Benoit Jacquot: It will be really interesting to see which questions Australians will ask of the movie, Farewell, My Queen and what will be there impressions of the film.


Question: What were you thoughts when Farewell, My Queen was chosen for the Alliance Française French Film Festival?

Benoit Jacquot: Yes, I was very happy.


Question: What inspired you to make Farewell, My Queen into a film after discovering the book?

Benoit Jacquot: I was very interested in the book which inspired me to make the movie because I followed the importance of the serious events.


Question: You discovered the book in 2002, why did it take so long to make the film?

Benoit Jacquot: I had four or five movie projects to complete prior to the Farewell, My Queen project, so I had to wait.


Question: What did you enjoy most when making Farewell, My Queen?

Benoit Jacquot: To make the past become the present.


Question: Can you talk about why you chose the cast, you did?

Benoit Jacquot: I chose the cast because I felt they were the best actresses and actors to take the parts and now I've seen the finished movie, I realise it was a really good casting decision.


Question: Did you have anyone in mind, prior to the auditioning process?

Benoit Jacquot: Long before I started to make the film I had a pretty good idea which actresses I wanted; from the beginning I had one actresses in mind.


Question: Why was it important to make changes from the book to film?

Benoit Jacquot: It was important that I made changes from the book to the film Farewell, My Queen because even though it is an adaptation of the book it's my movie not just a book and it was important that I did it my way.


Question: Are you working on another film?

Benoit Jacquot: In September I will film another contemporary melodrama movie and another project is set for early 2014.
