WHITE HOT WINTER WITH WILSON
French lace acquired on a recent trip to Europe, dramatically feminine cummerbunds made exclusively for the label and sequined fabric from Switzerland are just a few of the elements making Barbara Wilson's latest collection one of her best yet.
A subtle Spanish note whispers through the collection bringing with it a ruffle here and a sharp pant leg there. Colours are strong, with black, white and red dominating but burgundy, olive and bronze are present in some pieces.
As always, Wilson delivers exquisite looks in special occasion dressing but in 2002 extends her range to bring her trademark glamour and attention to detail to many more day-to-night looks.
Key to the collection is ankle length skirts with handkerchief hemlines. Bustiers - Wilson's specialty - go beyond the norm, with beads and sequins, velvet burnouts and a longer line to flatter the hip.
High-waisted black stovepipe pants with centre front splits shape the silhouette. When partnered with Wilson's stark white stretch fabric shirt, featuring a half circle ruffle with black ribbon and ¾ length sleeves, the look is dramatic and gorgeous. And lace stretch tops in black and white will become wardrobe staples.
For true evening sophistication Wilson has created a rich burgundy shot taffeta ensemble of a wrap shirt with a floor length A-line skirt.
Throughout this collection taffeta, lace, organza, jersey, satin and fur prevail. Comfort is never ignored in Barbara Wilson's design objectives so stretch jersey dresses and other stretch fabrics ensure sexy fits without stress or strain.
Wilson's own favourites in this collection include the French lace and Swiss sequined fabric she sourced on her last overseas sojourn, along with the full lace and organza skirts she has created that measure a delicious 14 metres around the hemline. This is a garment that will have you dancing Flamenco in the office and sipping Margaritas on the patio. Wilson also glories in the use of white for winter.
"For me nothing is as elegant and sharp as white in winter. There is something undeniably glamorous and vintage Hollywood about this look," she says.
