From the acclaimed director of 'Elizabeth', Shekhar Kapur, comes the gripping tale of Phoolan Devi, India's 'Bandit Queen'.
On the 12th February 1983, India's most famous and feared outlaw surrendered to police. The outlaw stood accused of many counts of murder and kidnapping, including the killing of thirty men in one raid - a massacre that became the infamous 'Behmai Massacre' - a masacre that brought down an entire government.
Phoolan Devi surrendered with her gang on her own terms, negotiating with a police force that was unable to capture her. Terms that did her honour. She surrendered in front of a cheering crowd of ten thousand, who considered her an avenging angel, the scourge of the high castes and the rich, and protector of the low caste and poor.
She had become the avenging angel of the dispossessed, a hero in a society where crimes agains women run rife.
This is her story.
