Izzy was not born blind - sadly when she was 18 months old she had a severe allergic reaction to an immunisation and suffered Steven-Johnson syndrome as a result. This condition literally caused Izzy to burn from the inside out, to the point that her skin came off and her corneas were completely scarred and stuck to her eyelids. While her skin grew back after 3 months in the burns ward of the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Izzy's eyes have suffered life long damage meaning she will never be able to see more than colour and movement.

Due to her condition Izzy requires full time care and lots of attention to further her development. The Indiegogo campaign "Help Build Izzy a Safe Sensory Play Space" has been started by Izzy's family to raise enough funds to build her a sensory garden in which she can play and learn. A sensory garden is a garden specifically designed to stimulate the senses of the disabled in a variety of ways which may include water features, braille, scented and edible plants, textured touch-pads and audio. For Izzy such a garden would be a safe haven where she can play and have her senses and imagination stimulated.

The funds raised by this campaign could make a big difference in the life of a little girl who has already lost so much. Contributions will help Izzy to play uninhibited and without fear in her own special space that has been designed for her needs.
