Basis is best known as the breakout comedic star on the CW's People's Choice Award-winning series, "Beauty and the Beast" alongside Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan, as well as a series regular role on The CW's "Life Unexpected" opposite Britt Robertson and Shiri Appleby. A working actor who has continuously booked role after role for decades, he has appeared on such acclaimed series as ABC's "How to Get Away with Murder", Hulu's Golden Globe-nominated series "Casual", FOX's "Lucifer", CBS's "Magnum P.I.", Showtime's "Homeland", HULU's "Little Fires Everywhere", ABC/Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.", NBC's "New Amsterdam", HBO Max's "Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty", and HULU's "Reasonable Doubt".
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Basis always knew he wanted to be in the limelight. Growing up, he dreamed of being a pitcher for his beloved team, the New York Mets. However, years later, Basis found himself captivated by his theater courses at SUNY's Binghamton University, and later graduated with a MFA from the Actor's Studio Drama School in New York.
Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at a young age, Austin is a strong advocate for T1D research, and is currently a Celebrity Ambassador for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), for which he is very passionate. As a writer, he also created the comic book series The KINETIX, a graphic saga following four amazing teens with disabilities and chronic illnesses who are high school students by day and a team of superheroes by night. Basis has distributed over 6,000 comics all around the world. In his free time, he enjoys playing baseball and tennis, hiking with his wife and writing poetry.
