Australian Tap Dance Festival

These Spring school holidays, AFL will not be the only thing celebrated in Melbourne, as a cavalcade of tap dancers arrive in town from across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore & USA for the fourth annual Australian Tap Dance Festival.

What comes to mind when you hear 'tap dance' mentioned?
The magic of Fred Astaire or Astaire & (Ginger) Rogers in 'Too hot to handle'?
The Nicholas Brothers with their highly acrobatic "flash dancing" style?
Gene Kelly in Singing in the Rain?
Or maybe Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson and Shirley Temple?

Regardless of the clip that you imagined, it was probably before 1960!

One Australian dancer, who's taught and performed on Broadway and in Hollywood is attempting to change all that! He wants to bring back Tap as contemporary and accessible in Australia... even making it popular again!

He is Winston Morrison, the creative director behind the Australian Tap Dance Festival.
