Art Party for teens returns to NGV in 2016

Teens will have exclusive access to Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei after hours, plus a silent disco, art workshops and live music, when Art Party returns to NGV International on Thursday 7 April 2016 from 5.30pm-9.30pm. Art Party guests can also enjoy a dance performance, plus sliders and pizzas from the Gallery Kitchen, in this unmissable school holiday event.

Melbourne chanteuse Ella Thompson will take to the stage in the Great Hall, performing songs from her highly-praised debut solo album Janus, released in 2015. Thompson fronts the band Dorsal Fins and is half of the electronic duo GL, in addition to her solo work. Music blog Purple Sneakers has called her, 'one of the most exciting acts in Australia at the moment".

Acclaimed local artist Esther Olsson, known for her vibrant abstract paintings incorporating hip-hop iconography and everyday objects,  will host art workshops in which guests can add to and interact with a series of colourful artworks created especially for Art Party.

Guests can enjoy a contemporary dance performance by Left Leg Studio, a boutique training studio specialising in jazz, tap, hip-hop, ballet and musical theatre performance. 2016 also sees the return of the surreal and popular silent disco, with party goers moving to tunes piped through individual sets of headphones. Dancing beats come from Guy Roseby, aka Gee, who regularly deejays at Melbourne venues Boney, Section 8, Ferdydurke, The Lounge and Atticus Finch.

Tony Ellwood, Director, NGV said, 'The inaugural Art Party in 2015 was a great success, drawing hundreds of young visitors from all over Mebourne and as far as Horsham, Shepparton and Woodend in regional Victoria. We're delighted to invite young art-makers and gallery goers back to NGV International for a curated and interactive gallery experience of their own."
