April School Holiday Programs at NGV

Free program Meet the Hermannsburg Potters – 6, 7, 9 & 10 April 10am at NGV Australia. Free. Meet the Hermannsburg Potters from Hermannsburg, Northern Territory, and learn about the techniques they use to create their signature terracotta pots. 

 

Free exhibition Our Land is Alive: Hermannsburg Potters for Kids – until 10 April 2016 at NGV Australia. Free. Australian Rules Football has taken over the NGV! The Hermannsburg Potters belong to a small community 130 kilometres south-west of Alice Springs. Famous for their colourful terracotta pots which tell stories about their culture and where they live, during footy season the Hermannsburg community also get together to watch AFL. Our Land is Alive includes 20 specially-commissioned large-scale pots depicting some of the AFL's best and finest Indigenous players from all eighteen teams and a pop-up making activity.  

 

Free exhibition Final days of Studio Cats – until 24 April, 10am – 5pm daily at NGV International. Free. As part of the summer blockbuster Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei, Studio Cats features fun and interactive cat-themed activities representing both artists and their deep affection for cats.  

 

Ticketed program Art Party – 7 April 5.30 – 9.30pm at NGV International. $10. Under 18s only. The popular Art Party returns with a night full of art workshops, live music, food, dancing and access to Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei just for teens including performances from Melbourne chanteuse Ella Thompson, dancing beats from DJ Guy Roseby and workshops with acclaimed local artist Esther Olsson. Tickets to the event include exclusive access to the Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei after hours.  

 

Free exhibition StArt Up: Top Arts 2016 – now open until July 2016, 10am – 5pm daily at NGV Australia. Free. Forty-two of the state's most distinctive up and coming artists will exhibit their work at the NGV for the first time at the annual StArt Up: Top Arts 2016. The exhibition celebrates the best of VCE Art and Studio Arts and features 49 works, drawn from 2,500 submissions. 

Easter Programs at NGV

For the first time, NGV International and NGV Australia will be open on Good Friday, 25 March, and remain open for the entire Easter period. Whistler's Mother will open on Friday 25 March at NGV International and visitors will also be able to access new exhibitions Jan Senbergs: Observation – Imagination and 200 Years of Australian Fashion at NGV Australia. Classic alt-rock band Died Pretty will also perform for the last time before they return to hibernation at Friday Nights at NGV at NGV International.
