A distinctive standout among the current vampire craze is Aleron, a new novel by Kane and the first of a five-book series entitled Strigoi (meaning "troubled souls of the dead rising from the grave"). Born of the author's extensive research into Eastern European history and folklore, Aleron is a chilling fantasy peppered with historical fact and popular legend.
Spanning 18th-19th century Eastern Europe and Egypt, this dark period piece begins with the transformation of a mortal man into the undead by Mynea, second-born of the coven of Vlad. Father of all vampires and the only male of his kind, Vlad has been careful to preserve his power by forbidding his princesses to make another male vampire. Mynea, jealous of her immortal sisters, secretly disobeys Vlad's cardinal rule and selects Egyptian-born Aleron as her victim.
Secrets and lies will come to light as Aleron, struggling with his love for Mynea and his new-found thirst for blood, strives to become more powerful than he could ever have imagined.
"I've written Aleron to appeal to a multi-generational audience," notes Kane. "While today's vampires are very popular with teens and tweens, immortals have always attracted a following among all ages. Historical fact coupled with a dynamic setting draws in the mature crowd. There's plenty of action to intrigue the youth and male audiences, as well as a moving love story to engage female interest.
Kane is a full-time writer living in Atlanta. His fascination with the human psyche led to studies in psychology. Aleron is the first book of his five-book series entitled Strigoi ("the troubled souls of the dead rising from the grave"). He recently spent time in Romania and other parts of Eastern Europe researching for the series. He has also created a mini-documentary about his travels. Aleron is available at Amazon.com

Question: What motivated you to begin writing the five-book series entitled Strigoi?
Kane: I have been a fan of vampires for many many years. Vampires touch us in the most intimate ways no matter how old we are, or what color we are. Eventually, born from my love for and fascination with them, this plot formulated within my imagination and would not cease until I began to write. While outlining the story, I realised there was more here than what one book could contain. I also realised, the story would reach across generations and cultures which would include many vampire fans who have been overlooked recently.
Question: Why did you choose the name 'Strigoi'?
Kane: First I had to return to where most of vampire legend and folklore reside, Eastern Europe. I found in my travels to Romania, the term strigoi embodied what a vampire truly is, the troubled souls of the dead rising to live.
