Known for pioneering fascinating animation techniques including scratching on film, cut out animation, graphical sound and pixilation, McLaren is being celebrated at this year's Melbourne International Animation Festival. He received numerous awards including an Oscar® for his experimental works, and his legacy is fondly remembered, particularly in Canada, where he produced the bulk of his work. This activity is the perfect companion to the special MIAF screening for 3 - 8 year olds in ACMI cinemas*. Kids can try 'McLaren's Workshop' an iPad app that explores the experimental techniques invented by McLaren and contribute to a collaborative cut-paper animation in the style of McClaren's La Merle.
