ACMI congratulates Leonardo Di Caprio on his first Academy Award®. The actor, who won Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 2016 Oscars®, has been nominated for the gong three times and once for a supporting role. Previous nominations include his star turns in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street and The Aviator, both of which feature in an upcoming exhibition on the director and his collaborators at ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image). SCORSESE opens 26 May 2016.

Curated by the Deutsche Kinemathek - Museum for Film and Television, Berlin, Scorsese's story is illuminated through 600 objects including storyboards, hand annotated film scripts, unpublished production stills, costumes, film clips and more.

Among the exhibits are original prints featuring DiCaprio taken by photographer Brigitte Lacombe on the set of Scorsese's films including The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), Shutter Island (2010), The Departed (2006), The Aviator (2004) and the film that started their long and fruitful creative partnership, Gangs of New York (2002).

Three-time Academy Award® winning costume designer, Sandy Powell, was up for two Oscar® honours this year for her costume design on Carol and Cinderella. The long-time collaborator of Scorsese has worked with the director and DiCaprio on The Wolf of Wall Street, Hugo, Shutter Island, The Departed and Gangs of New York, taking home the Oscar for Best Achievement in Costume Design for Scorsese's acclaimed Howard Hughes biopic The Aviator. Powell's costumes are on display throughout the exhibition with an additional five exclusively on loan to ACMI for the exhibition's Melbourne dates.

The SCORSESE exhibition explores the breadth of Martin Scorsese's work, from his early experimental beginnings through to his award-winning feature films, working methods and key creative collaborations, as well as his personal motivations and passions, offering insight into Scorsese's career as an unparalleled screen stylist and a tireless champion of cinema.

Scorsese's enduring collaborations with actor Robert De Niro, cinematographer Michael Ballhaus and editor Thelma Schoonmaker are also explored within the exhibition.

Curated by the Deutsche Kinemathek - Museum for Film and Television, Berlin, the exhibition, which draws on the riches of Scorsese's personal collection and recollections, demonstrates the indelible cinematic legacy of the prolific and passionate auteur.

SCORSESE shows exclusively at ACMI from Thursday 26 May to Sunday 18 September 2016. For tickets and information acmi.net.au/Scorsese
