A&K Sets Sail Aboard Le Lyrial to Antarctica

Luxury travel company Abercrombie & Kent announces a new ship for its 2016-17 Antarctic season.

Just launched in April Le Lyrial is the sister ship of Le Boreal, which A&K charters for its current polar cruise programme. Despite its 122 staterooms and suites, passenger numbers are capped by A&K at 199. All guest cabins will offer balconies. The ship's contemporary décor is inspired by the destinations it visits with a subtle palette of blues, from the delicate grey-blue of the Polar ice to the vivid turquoise of the Mediterranean, and has the spirit of an elegant seaside retreat.

A&K has been operating expeditionary cruises to Antarctica for over 25 years and for the 2016-17 Antarctic season presents four expeditions. There are two 11-night journeys to the Antarctic Peninsula, one themed around understanding Climate Change and the other a family New Year adventure. Two longer expeditions of 16 nights' duration are also available which explore the Antarctic Peninsula plus South Georgia and the Falkland Islands, one is specially tailored for families and travels over Christmas and the other is a dedicated photographic trip with tailored activities and workshops for shutterbugs of all levels and abilities.

Expert naturalist guides accompany guests on Zodiac excursions and conduct educational and informative briefings on board. There is a minimum of 16 expedition staff on each journey comprising research scientists, conservationists, historians and wildlife photographers – all expert in their field.
